March 6, 2009: 1:30 p.m., "Preserving Eudora Welty's Legacy" panel discussion at the Mississippi Historical Society annual meeting at the Old Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi. Click here for more information. At 3:00 p.m., participants will visit the Eudora Welty House.
March 17 - 18, 2009: Celebration of Eudora Welty's 100th Birthday, Smith Library of the Vaughan Literature Building, Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Events include: March 17, 11:45 a.m. - A panel discussion about Welty literature, life and criticism with Suzanne Marrs, Millsaps College; Rebecca Mark, Tulane University; and Harriet Pollack, Bucknell. March17, 7:30 p.m. - "Writing Biography: Eudora Welty, The Woman and the Myths," a presentation by Suzanne Marrs. March 18, 4:00 p.m. - "You Got a Fire in Here?" Or Deviling Details in "The Demonstrators" and "Where is the Voice Coming From," a discussion by Rebecca Mark of Welty's stories responding to the racial trauma that occurred in Mississippi in the 1960s, including the murder of civil rights activist Medgar Evers. March 28, 2009: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., "Heirloom Plants in Garden Design" seminar at Belhaven College with Dr. William Welch, Texas A & M University and Jenny Rose Carey, director of the Temple University Arboretum. A plant sale and tour of the Welty garden will follow this event.

Events include: 5:00 p.m. "Eudora Welty and the Writing Life," a lecture delivered by Dr. Peggy Whitman Prenshaw, Humanities Scholar in Residence, Millsaps College. 7:30 p.m. "Eudora Welty: A Niece's Perspective," a presentation by Elizabeth White, Eudora Welty's great niece. April 9, 2009: 9:00 p.m., Eudora Welty reads from "Petrified Man" and Losing Battles on a special edition of Mississippi Public Broadcasting's Writers series. These scenes, never before broadcast, are from rare film footage shot in 1975 by filmmaker Richard Moore. The footage was donated to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History by the National Endowment for the Arts.
April 9 - April 30, 2009: Continuing exhibition, Eudoric Eurythmy: Visual Arts Based on the Life and Works of Eudora Welty, Highlands Fine Art Gallery, Jackson, Mississippi. Consists of portraits of Eudora Welty, images representing her home or characters, and depictions of scenes from stories or books submitted by Mississippi artists. April 13, 2009: 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Happy Birthday, Eudora Welty!, the Eudora Welty House celebrates Eudora Welty's 100th birthday. The birthday cake will be cut at 10:00 a.m., and the house will be open for free tours on the half hour beginning at 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Reservations are required.
